About Artwork

Good quality artwork leads to a good quality print

We can take almost any file and create a print from it… but that doesn’t mean it will be good. It is important to supply your artwork in the correct format to achieve the best possible results. The following tips will help you to understand what is required and why.

VECTOR GRAPHICS  .ai  .eps  .cdr  .svg  .pdf

Vector based artwork is perfect for supplying graphic style designs with solid/spot color work. This type of file retains its quality when resizing.

Please supply any special fonts used or convert typed layers to paths before saving and sending.

Note: Saving a compressed file (such as jpeg) as an “.ai” file does not turn your artwork into a vector file.

RASTER GRAPHICS  .psd  .pdf  .tif

Images that contain a lot of gradients, effects or photographic detail are usually raster images. They can be very high quality but remember that enlarging small images too much causes pixelation or fuziness.

Raster files are typically much larger in filesize than vector art. If your files are larger than 10mbs we recomend using a file transfer site such as WeTransfer or Dropbox to send your creations.

Note: Make sure to set your artboard/canvas to the actual size of the desired print (or larger) at a resolution of 300 or 600 dpi.

COMPRESSED  .jpg  .png  .gif

While there are exceptions, supplying artwork in any of these formats is not recommended as the quality of the artwork is often compromised which can lead to poor printing results. Beware of files squeezed into emails or passed around over WhatsApp.

Note: If you can’t provide a more suitable format our art department will often be able to recreate a perfect, print-ready replica.
